I guess this is where I have to talk a little about me. I’m really not sure what you could possibly want to know about me, but I guess I’ll start with the basics. My name’s Josh Miller, and this is my site. I decided to put it up because I was feeling a serious need for a creative outlet, and to share my love of food and beer with the rest of the world.

By day I’m a professional computer geek. By night, I’m a food/beer geek. Other interests include music of just about any genre, the outdoors and anything that has a power button and some blinky lights. I’m not a professional writer, or photographer, or chef, or brewer. I do know a fair amount about each of those subjects though, so I hope to combine that knowledge here and build a website that people want to read while they put off the real work of their day.

I suppose you were hoping to find out some of my dirty secrets on this page huh? I got one for ya… I’m a vegetarian. Wait! before you close your browser, let me explain.

I choose to not eat meat for a multitude of reasons that I don’t care to get into here. I hate for my eating habits to be the topic of discussion, especially when a host is trying to figure out what the hell they’re going to feed the vegetarian. I can find something to eat nearly anywhere. It’s not as big of a deal as most people think. I’ve made this choice for myself, and don’t try to push it on anyone else. I don’t judge people because they don’t share my beliefs, and I understand why this decision of mine is so hard for some people to “get”.

Now that we’ve got that part out of the way, let’s talk about the site a bit.

My vision for this place is for it to be somewhere that people who daydream about food and beer, or the making of food and beer can come to learn something or just be entertained. Since you know my biggest secret already, I should also explain that this isn’t going to be a vegetarian-only site. My wife and friends are all meat eaters, and a big part of what I love about being in the kitchen is cooking for them. I also worked in restaurants for most of my teenage years and into my twenties. I’ve learned how to tell when a steak is done by touching it. I know my spices pretty well, and have learned how much of them I need to achieve the taste I’m going for. I don’t have to eat the meat to prepare it well.

I only bring all of this up so that people who aren’t vegetarians will stick around and see what this place has to offer. If you love beer, or you want to learn how to make it, you’ve found the right place. If you’re a gadget geek, I plan to test and talk about every cool kitchen or brewing gadget I can get my hands on. If you’re looking for a recommendation for a new beer to try, or a restaurant in Austin (or anywhere else that I travel), you’ll also find that here. If it relates to beer or food, there’s a good chance I’ll be talking about it here.

So, kick back, pour yourself a beer and take a look around. If you have constructive criticism or want to send me free beer to review, please contact me at kegsandkitchen at gmail .com.

Cheers,

Josh
